See those things in the top right? They will mess you up! | These electric goats are peaceful until you mess with them. | For some reason my sunhat made of grass is not protecting me from the winter chill. |
---|---|---|
Frickin' spiders. I have died so many times by them . . . | "Who would want a bee as a pet?" | My game crashed a few times, which was super annoying. The save file was basically corrupted and all of my progress was lost. |
A parasol made of flower petals. This will keep me safe! | These frogs will mess you up, too! | These evil spiders have killed my sentient treasure chest and are coming after me! |
If you feed these pigs they'll fight for you - and even punch down trees! | This was part of my base fortification - many enemies run at you in a straight line and struggle to follow you through turns like these. | So much honey . . . with so many bees! |
Frickin' bees . . . | This is a map that I survived long enough to see in its entirety. | Ah, the accomplishrine - the most useless object in the game. You just spin it until you can't spin it anymore. You get a trophy out of it, though! |
The map view of my base, which I've arranged for easy access to twigs, grass, wood, berries, and more. | Ugh, so many super spiders! | I collected a punch of special objects and made a portal. Looks safe! |
My character getting yanked into another dimension. | Even though it's day one I have quite a lot of materials! That the beauty of creating a portal. |
Don't Starve
The PS Vita version of Don't Starve plays exactly the same as on PC and other consoles, so that's pretty sweet. Your goal is to avoid starvation by any means necessary! I am not terribly good at this game, but I think part of it is because the risk/reward system is a little imbalanced. I'd play for a couple of hours and build up a base and store of supplies, but every time I took a risk exploring or by trying to gain certain materials then I'd always die. It just didn't seem worth it to play for so long and still be unable to conquer basic enemies.
Perhaps I just don't "get" that part of the game. I got around this by changing the settings so that it is always daytime, and I was more successful in this play style even though I knew I was kind of cheating.
Gathering supplies in order to build survival gear is a great idea, but it's starts to get old. There is no way to automate certain processes - you could be playing for hours but you still need to spend most of that time chopping wood, cutting grass, and picking berries. It just starts to get tedious and I wish there was a way to streamline things.
Overall, the game is a bunch of fun and provides a healthy challenge!
