That yellow light in the distance indicates a power up. The tall light gives you a heads up in case you want to get over there in time.

You collect blue triangles to boost your score, or as part of certain challenges.

There are some "hidden" stages with more power-ups than average.

Oooh, pure solar energy . . .

You can collect a power-up that let's you jump. This provides a huge advantage - for a few seconds.

Could I make it to that green "jump" power-up in time? . . .

If you have more than one jump power-up at a time then you can double or even triple jump.

For every five blue triangles you collect, your multiplier goes up (in the top left). You get points just for traveling, so basically the bigger your multiplier the bigger your score.

The sun's getting low!

These balls roll around and can be hard to avoid.

This does not bode well . . .

Every few minutes there is an empty area and a bird comes by and drops a few bonus items.

In general, the farther you get the taller the obstacles will be. This is for a few reasons, but mainly they create large shadows that block the precious solar energy.

Ugh. If you make it far then pillars will start falling sideways. This suddenly narrows your path considerably and led to many a death for me.

This innocent straight, wide open path becomes bombarded with large spheres rolling back and forth. Good luck with that!

Race the Sun is an "endless runner" style game where you play as a solar powered hovercraft.  The sun is off in the distance and gradually sets in the horizon.  If it sets your craft will run out of juice and the game is over.  You'll also go more slowly if you are covered by shadows.  You can magically get the sun to go higher in the sky by collecting certain power-ups.  The goal is simply to get as far as possible - one collision and you're dead.

Interestingly, the game levels are completely randomized and change every day.  This keeps the game fresh and ensures that you'll get an endless supply of playgrounds; it also means you can practice the same course to get better, but only for one day.  Each day people vie for the top score on the new track.

There are mini challenges to complete and you are rewarded for your efforts.  Some of these bonuses are simply cosmetic changes to your ship, but some give you special abilities such as being able to attract power-ups from a greater distance.

Race the Sun does a great job at getting you to feel that your ship is moving fast.  It genuinely feels tense when your speed is cranked up and there are obstacles everywhere.  It's quite challenging to avoid obstacles, get over to power-ups, and avoid the shadows of tall objects.

My primary complaint with this well-made game is that it is not great for medium-length or long gaming sessions.  A new track every day is cool, but that means that at any given time there is really only one track you can race on.  Even though the game is fun, playing the same level over and over gets old relatively quickly.  This frustrating situation is significantly alleviated by a few different game modes, but frankly they are all much more difficult than the core game.

I believe this game is also on other mobile devices so if you can get it on your phone then give it a try!
