Geometry Wars 3 is a twin stick shooter, meaning you move with one joystick and shoot with the other. It plays a lot like the Super Stardust games. Each level has a defined set of enemies and a rating system for how well you play.
You are able to earn currency which you can spend to upgrade your "turret" and secondary fire. For each level you might be able to use your secondary weapon two or three times, and your turret is always around. Perhaps you want your turret to shoot extra bullets, or maybe you'd prefer it to circle around you and destroy any enemy it touches.
There are many levels to this game (over 100) and each one is unique. There are also a wide variety of enemies that each have their own behavior. It was difficult to get good screenshots of this game because if I took my fingers off the controls to take a screenshot then I'd probably die. All in all I thought the game was fun and played it quite a lot, but I still prefer the tighter gameplay of the Stardust series.
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved
It's evolved! | I'm the white thing on the left shooting my bullets into the purple enemies. | |
---|---|---|
Some of the levels take place on a 3D shape, but other are on a 2D plane. | When you destroy these giant shapes then they break into smaller pieces, which in turn do the same. | |
This boss level takes place on a cube. Bosses typically have several stages before they finally explode for good. | TAKE THAT, SHAPES! | Those red walls kill you on touch and move around the cylindrical play area. |
This game mode tasks you to go through these yellow gates and take away your ability to shoot. There is a small explosion when you go through the gates, so you have to take out enemies that way. | You can tell what kind of enemy is about to appear somewhere due to the light that comes down. | This level gets smaller the more you shoot the walls. Accuracy counts! |
You can get short bonuses, such as the ability to shoot 3 streams of bullets. | On this level more and more deadly red blocks cover the level. | |
These worm things are tough. They die if you hit the blue part but the red body stops all bullets. | This is one of the stages of the final boss. It was actually really hard! | I've made my turret have the "snipe" ability, which means it slowly shoots accurate bullets. I've got it fully upgraded so it shoots three bullets at a time. |
Things are getting crazy! | In this screenshot my turret is circling me and taking out anything that gets too close. | |
The blue enemies just blindly follow you. I've got quite the following to destroy when I go through a gate. |
