Galak-Z

Galak-Z is a fairly unique game wherein you explore large areas of space to eliminate enemy forces.  You can get power-ups over time to improve your ship, but you lose it all if you get killed. In addition to wide open space you can explore cavernous asteroids or enemy bases.  Part way through the game you gain the ability to transform your ship into a type of flying robot.  

 

In general it seems like the game is well made, but honestly I think it just wasn't for me.  I got to the part where you can transform your ship into a robot but found it very difficult because the controls are suddenly different.  After I died I lost all of my powerups and was grossly underpowered for the level I was at.  There was essentially nothing I could do to succeed other than start over from the very beginning of the game, which frankly I wasn't willing to do for a free game.
