How ominous . . . | I chose to be the worrier character, and named him Frasier, of course. This goblin guy is one of the most basic in the game. | |
---|---|---|
There's a "hub" city where you can buy stuff, heal friends, etc. | Remember how I said the whole game is over-the-top? | |
Spiders. Spiders are evil and must all be destroyed. I'm talking about real life. | You find bones throughout your quest and you can resurrect them. If you are playing online the bones are from actual players. | |
Concept art for a griffin. | ||
Contest: find a better name for a boss character than "Doom Beetle." | ||
You can ride monsters just like in Golden Axe. | ||
Quite the detail in the concept art. . . | ||
Reminds me of Jafaar in Aladdin. | ||
You come across a character in each stage where you make a choice which path to take. | Trying to steal a magic lamp from a genie . . . | |
Fire dog puppies. | ||
I'm pretty sure this is an homage to Tim from Monty Python. | ||
Ugh, the Gazer is a pain in the butt. | After each stage you try to get back your health and earn other bonuses from cooking food. The food available is based off of the enemies you defeated in the prior level. Looks like I killed some kind of snake and some scorpions. | |
A grumpy chimera. | Looks like the Gazer killed all of us. . . | |
This also reminds me of Aladdin . . . | ||
You need to steal a key from the Cyclops's's's . . . | Finding some crappy treasure . . . | |
This is the true final boss of the game. You can't even really fight him unless you've completed everything else in the game, which takes quite a while. | ||
Concept art of Treants. They're like Ents from The Lord of the Rings. | ||
Dragon's don't mess around. | ||
If you don't defeat the doom beetle fast enough then the worm thingies will turn into more. | ||
You're going to want to have a shield up when this happens . . . | If you don't kill the red dragon fast enough, he'll end up falling down a bit and you won't get credit for defeating it. | |
Owlbears. | ||
This concept art didn't translate into anything into the game, but I thought it looked sufficiently crazy. | Harpy babies. | The Kraken taking down my ship. |
Killer Rabbit, huh . . . | ||
Obligatory Skyrim reference . . . | At the end of each level you can choose to continue your adventure with bonuses, or to return to town | |
The Kraken. | ||
Concept art of the Gazer home-world. Thank goodness you don't need to go there in the game . . . | Killer Rabbit, a la Monty Python. | |
Just eating a cookie . . . | ||
The fake final "true" boss. | ||
The actual final, true boss. | ||
Take that, fish! | ||
Dragon's Crown
Dragon's Crown is a PS Vita game, but it's also available on the PS3. It plays a lot like Golden Axe, Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, and the like. It also has RPG elements where you can earn new moves and abilities. You also find treasure in the form of new weapons and armor. There are about 9 levels, each with branching paths with different bosses. The gameplay became a little tedious over time, but overall I enjoyed playing this completely over-the-top game. Everything is exaggerated and I thought it made things interesting. You can also unlock some concept art, which is some of the most intricate I've ever seen for a game.
