Don't they know anything about zombies?! A screwdriver to the shoulder isn't gonna do it. | Episode 2 starts out in the woods. | |

The Walking Dead (Season One)
I played this on the PS Vita. When I played this I'd never seen the TV show or read the comics, so this was my introduction to this series.
This game refined a solid gameplay mechanic: though you can walk around and explore, the interesting part of the game is the dialogue choices. If a character asks you a question, expect to answer fast or else the other character will assume you're not answering them. And each character will remember what you said. When I played I figured I'd just always be honest, but some of the dialogue options got pretty tricky. For example, should you disclose to an armed, unstable person that you have served time in prison? Will they be able to find out if you lie?
I really liked the story. Without spoiling too much, you play as a man who finds himself alone in a sudden zombie apocalypse. You find a stranded little girl and throughout the game you try to protect her in various ways - both physically and emotionally. I really enjoyed this dynamic and found myself genuinely caring for the little girl. This game impacted me in a way I didn't expect and I thought the story-telling was very well done.
The game itself was made and released in 5 "episodes," each of which last for a couple of hours. I think this actually really helped the game because there were 5 story intros, story arcs, and conclusions. Some video games get quite dull in the middle, but that definitely isn't the case with this game.
