Ultratron is a twin-stick shooter, meaning you move with the left analogue stick and shoot with the right one.  In most of these games you play as a jet or spaceship or something, so this game is somewhat unique in that you play as a robot that's simply walking around.

You get points and money for killing enemies, and after every round you can upgrade the robot or even buy little minions that shoot different projectiles. In general I'd say this formula works pretty well, but for me it wasn't always clear what exactly the upgrade would do so I'd have to buy it on faith.  I also think that you collect money a little bit too slow, which means you might go several matches without purchasing anything.

Every twenty levels there's a boss, and they're pretty tough.  After every boss is a checkpoint, and this is something Ultratron does better than most twin-stick shooters.  So say you die on the level 60 boss - in most games you'd completely start over, but in Ultratron you keep the upgrades you had at level 40 and you can start from there.  It's a good blend of being punishing but also forgiving.

The primary complaint I have about the game is that it's often too difficult to see what's going on.  I think it's simply to do with the color and effect choices, but there were times when I genuinely couldn't tell where the robot was or where the enemies were.  Only after extensive playtime was it easy to differentiate the enemy bullets from other flashing lights.  All in all, though, it's good for a few (or several) hours of fun.
